The Church's Health

Some survey data shows that not only does church attendance help keep the church healthy, but it also can keep the people healthy!

Experiencing God's Reality

While we can attempt, in our humanity, to choose our own reality, the only reality that actually counts is the one determined for us by God. Unfortunately, we can be prone to construct “fake news,” you might say.  God wants us to experience the reality He has in store for us, applying His principles to our human condition.

Another Gospel

After attending a National Religious Broadcasters Convention, certainly there is much to process.  It is a time for many to receive training and exhortation, to connect with practical tools in order to be better communicators of the gospel.  For others, it is a time for encouragement, to be built up in the faith.

My NRB experience for years has been to hear firsthand from Christian communicators, including authors, musical artists, commentators, actors, and more.  I believe that one of the threads upon which I was able to explore this year at the convention in Orlando was the conflict between the true gospel and what I have referred to as “another gospel,” borrowing from the verse in Galatians 1:8 - “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.”

Choosing to Be "Constructive"

In a time in which awards shows have become politicized, it seems that those responsible for the Academy Awards had become concerned, according to a piece on the Deadline Hollywood website. After the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony became open season on President Trump, and specifically his refugee policy, it seemed that the Oscars might have been taking a second look.

Resting in a Perpetually Busy World

We have rolled over into a new year, on the heels of what is traditionally a busy season.  We may search for pockets of rest that can help rejuvenate our souls and our bodies when weariness sets in.  Actually, it’s really not just a seasonal thing...Jesus tells us to come to Him for rest, but the demands and distractions of everyday life can keep us from enjoying that experience.

The Value of Faith

What do you think is the value to society of the practice of religion?  Could you place a “dollar value” on it?

Well, two researchers have attempted to do just that. Brian Grim of Georgetown University and his daughter, Melissa Grim of Newseum Institute, have released a study that has calculated three estimates of religion’s socio-economic value to the United States, according to an article on the Christianity Today website.

Helped Up

The Olympic Games in Rio are now history, full of memorable moments and tremendous triumphs.  Perhaps one of the most memorable came in a 5,000 meter qualifying event in track and field.  American runner Abbey D’Agostino and New Zealander Nikki Hamblin tripped over one another on the track and both fell to the ground.

Liberty

News sources have been calling it a Big Brother bill, and the implications are chilling. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed legislation that tightens restrictions on missionary activity and evangelism, according to a report on the Christianity Today website.
