LaBarron and Lori Boone, Married 16 Years

RRJ:  Have you both been Christ-followers since a young age?

Lori:  We both attended church from the time we were babies. We were both baptized as teenagers. However going to church is much different than living a Christ-filled life. That transformation happened while in law school for LaBarron. When adversity hit, his faith was tested and God clearly revealed Himself to him.  LaBarron said it was as if he was having a conversation with God when God clearly said you cannot expect my blessing unless you live a life worthy of my mercy and grace.  At that time LaBarron’s journey began anew and He strove to Honor the Lord. My journey began after law school when I had reached all of my goals and still felt something was missing from my life. I began reading the Bible and experienced my life being transformed when the words came to life for the first time.

6 Deady Enemies of Marriage

Marriage is under attack. Marriage has always been under attack. The world, the flesh and the devil are all adamantly opposed to marriage, and especially to marriages that are distinctly Christian. Marriage, after all, is given by God to strengthen his people and to glorify himself; little wonder, then, that it is constantly a great battleground.

Husbands, love your wives (Ephesians 5:25a). On the one hand it is such a simple statement, a simple command....Simply love.  On the other hand there is not a husband in the world who would say that he has mastered it.

On Cancer and Marriage…

Last month, Doyle Powell expressed thankfulness to his First Baptist Sunday school class for the many calls, cards, casseroles, and prayers.  He couldn’t count the number of people who had contacted them since Lisa, his bride of 31 years, was diagnosed with endometrial cancer three days prior.  They were so thankful their friends were lifting them up daily—asking our heavenly Father for complete healing of Lisa’s body.  In fact, Doyle and Lisa were clinging to this lifeline of prayer.

God and Nakedness

Last month I wrote about the purpose of marriage in my article "Marriage is a Ministry."  I touched on the role of our nakedness before and after the Fall of Adam and Eve.  The husband and wife went from no shame before sin to shame in their sin that drove them to hide from both God and each other.  RC Sproul fleshes this out even more.  I encourage every couple to listen to his talk, "God and Nakedness", at oneplace.com to learn how this event impacts our marriages still today.  Listen here http://www.oneplace.com/ministries/renewing-your-mind/listen/god-and-nakedness-163170.html
