Reality & Truth Ministries

“I’ve witnessed first hand how God can reach into your personal moment of need, whether it be a need for understanding, or a physical, emotional, or spiritual need, and speak Truth that is applicable to you personally. We all need life spoken into us, whether we are poor, rich, educated, uneducated, skilled, unskilled, healthy, unhealthy, happy or sad. I love receiving this from the Lord, and I desire all to receive the same.”

As a young mom, I thought Mother’s Day should be all about me.  Surely I deserved recognition for my never-ending sacrifices as a mom and stepmom to five children, right?  However, after driving away from my parents’ home recently with tears spilling down my cheeks, I sensed God asking me to honor my mom with the time we have left. Unable to deny that Alzheimer’s is consuming Mom’s every fiber, Mother’s Day carries an overwhelming sadness, as she no longer knows me as her daughter.

Teaching your kids can feel daunting. But teaching your kids about God can feel downright terrifying.

Some feel overwhelmed with time issues. They just don’t see how they can fit something else into their day. Others may not feel as if they have adequate theological training. They feel uncomfortable instructing their kids beyond, “Jesus loves you.”

In the early years of our marriage, I wondered if we would make it to our next anniversary. Blending four children, grappling with our stepparent roles while learning to parent together, combating ex-spouses, and trying to stay afloat with job, church and community obligations seemed impossible.  As we celebrated 21 years of marriage recently, I’m thankful we never quit.

There are circumstances and decisions that take our lives in unexpected and sometimes heartbreaking directions. It is then that we must take up the broken pieces and begin again with a fresh start and a new life. However, forging a new life for ourselves is never easy. The process can be made more bearable with someone to share the burden with us. For some in Montgomery, that help comes from an incredible ministry called Renascence Inc. Their mission is “to assist men recently released on parole for non-violent offenses to successfully reintegrate into the community.”

According to statistics from Renascence, over 8,500 men are released from the Alabama Department of Corrections each year. Many of these men have no support from family or friends, no job, and no marketable skills. They may have other circumstances that make finding employment difficult, such as a lack of education, a history ofchemical dependence, physical or mental disabilities, or a lack of transportation. Over half return to prison within a few years.

Easter: Pathetic or Genius?

Jesus didn’t stutter when he said that he is the truth:

I am the way, and the truth, and the life,” he said, “no one comes to the Father except through me (John 14:6).

Why did Jesus claim to be the truth, versus one single truth among many other truths? Why did he say that he would not share his glory with any other God or any other religious leader? Why was he unwilling to accept the mere designation of Rabbi or of a good moral teacher or of an exemplary human being? Furthermore, why do his followers seem stuck on the idea that Jesus, in being the truth, is the singular path to God? CS Lewis, a secular atheist intellect turned Christian, answers this question as well as anyone inMere Christianity:

When and where were you two married? What are your fondest memories of your wedding and the days leading up to it?

Alice:  We got married on August 19, 2017 at the Oaks Plantation in Pike Road, Alabama.  My fondest memory is all of my family being together.  I am the baby of four and I have ten nieces and nephews who were all in the wedding.  Anywhere we go, it tends to be a party due to how big our family is. We had a small family ceremony and a brunch afterward with more friends and family. It was very special to be surrounded by the many people who have impacted our lives so greatly.
