Is the Lion Roaring?

Written by Mike and Lisa Conn

This is a praise and prayer article!  We’re giving thanks for the salvation of a dear friend and for his loving, supportive family.  And we’re praying for them as they are attacked by the roaring lion because they’ve taken a stand for Christ.

Falling Off the Wedding Cake

Written by Mike and Lisa Conn

Remember the cute little plastic couple who graced the top of your wedding cake?  After our wedding, 31 years ago, I saved our cake topper and despite being transported around the world during many military moves, the happy couple now lives in our china cabinet, broken, patched up, yet still together after all these years.  On the day of our wedding, this little bride and groom stood together as one on top of the cake, infallible and undefeatable.  After the wedding, however, we found that the challenges of life were eroding our marriage foundation.  We start sliding down that slippery slope of isolation, feeling powerless to stop our descent.  What could we do to get back on the wedding cake?  Here are some tried and true tips:

Communicating With a Smile on Your Face

Written by Mike and Lisa Conn

Montgomery is special in many ways.  One unique quality is that Montgomery is home to Maxwell Air Force Base, bringing the world to our city.  We have airmen and soldiers visiting and living here from every state and many other countries.  Air University at Maxwell is home to many of our country’s professional military schools, including Squadron Officer School (SOS), Air Command and Staff College, and Air War College.  Attending SOS alone each year are over 3600 young Captains who are pilots and navigators, combat support, engineers, medical providers, chaplains, and every career possible in the military.

The Best Gift You Can Give Your Father

Written by Mike and Lisa Conn

June, 2003

I have a story to tell.  A story that has been embedded in my soul my entire life.  It’s not just my story; it’s my father’s story as well.  I talked to him today.  He was alone on Father’s Day, which made me feel sad.  We talked about each of my children and about his failing marriage.  With him, it is easy to move from sharing about the toils of the day to a deeper pool of shared regret and pain.

Marital Temptation and “The Tingles”

Written by Mike and Lisa Conn

Covenant Family Ministries has a heart for military families.  We’ve never forgotten the challenges that a military family faces--months of separation, frequent moves, living far from family and friends, and dealing with the stress from performing dangerous training and missions on a regular basis.

How Dads Sow Seeds of Love

Written by Mike and Lisa Conn

One of my favorite photographs sits on Mike’s bedside table.  It’s a framed black and white picture of a little girl sitting contentedly upon her daddy’s lap--his arms wrapped protectively around her.  The little girl is our daughter, Ashley, at about 20 months old.  She doesn’t remember that day in 1985, but when she looks at the picture, Ashley knows the secret--that her daddy loves her with all his heart.

Are YOU the Manager?

Written by Mike and Lisa Conn

Little did my husband know what was hidden in the heart of his new bride.  In fact, I didn’t know either.  We both learned a valuable lesson that cold and rainy night as we travelled northwest from our home on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to visit his mother in Vicksburg, MS.  I was still a new member of the Conn family, and most of our friends and relatives saw me as a sweet, even-tempered girl.  However, what we learned that night was, when provoked enough, there was a different side of Lisa; a side to be reckoned with.

Building Family Teams in Cuba!

Written by Mike and Lisa Conn

I was five years old when our country was in the icy grips of some of the most fearful weeks of the Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States.  I remember vividly my lovely young first grade teacher training her tiny students to respond immediately to her sharp hand-clapping signal--we were to quickly leave our desks and kneel underneath a long row of windows in the knee/chest position with our hands behind our heads.  In preparation for a possible nuclear attack, we practiced this exercise several times each day of the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962.
