Candidate Checklist

Written by Bob Crittendon

Very soon after the publication of this column, voters in Alabama will be going to the polls to cast their ballots in the Presidential primaries. Democrat voters will be affirming their selection of Barack Obama for a second term, and Republican voters will be making choices that will be somewhat significant in affecting the delegate count for the convention. I believe that Christians have a responsibility, as good citizens of our constitutional republic, to participate in the political process.

Living a Life Worthy of the Gospel

Written by Tony McCollough

It happens to the best of us! In fact, it happens to all of us! What happens you say? Our performance never quite lives up to our profession of faith. All of us are aware of this when it comes to making our commitments for the Lenten season. Some are like the apostle Peter and make professions that we will follow Jesus unto death and then before the proverbial cock crows, like Peter, we deny Christ in our hearts and with our actions. We make a public profession of our faith, but every day we slip up and deny our Lord. We almost despair at the thought of a life to match our faith.

The Necessity of Friendship

Written by Brenda Payne

In my years of working as a counselor, I have been struck by the number of Christian women who are disconnected from relationships in their local church. Many of these women have spent the bulk of their lives raising children and working a job. And by the time you add maintaining a husband and home, they simply have not had the time or energy to invest in meaningful relationships outside their family. If they have “friends”, they are often built on convenience and lack substance beyond an acquaintanceship. Unfortunately, when “the day of evil” comes they struggle to find the people resources needed to help them through their trial. They are in need of wisdom, encouragement, and accountability, but they don’t have anyone who knows them intimately.
